Alphonse was born on February 27, 1993, in the busy city of Paris, France. In the French city, he and his sister, Gratia Claire Areola, were raised by their parents, Heidi and Cleto Areola.

His parents, Cleto and Heidi, moved to France from the Philippines in the late 1980s. They settled in the Grenelle neighborhood just south of the famous Eiffel Tower.

Alphonse’s journey in football started at the tender age of six when he joined Entente Sportive des Petits Anges, a local club that nurtured his passion for the sport.

After seven fruitful years, he caught the attention of Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who welcomed him into their ranks. Recognizing his potential, coaches in Paris advised the young talent to enroll at the prestigious Clairefontaine football center to hone his skills further.

Following a year of intensive training, he returned to PSG and, at 16, inked his first professional contract with the club in July 2009, committing himself to a good three-year deal.

His journey continued to evolve when he received his first call-up to the French senior team on 1 October 2015. Manager Didier Deschamps trusted him to be part of the squad for friendly matches against Armenia and Denmark, an essential step in France’s preparation for hosting UEFA Euro 2016.

On his first game with the senior national team, he kept a clean sheet and was named man of the match. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
