On June 3, 1999, Melinda Smart gave birth to Javonte Smart. The former LSU guard is raised by his mother. Hence, he is close to her. 

Javonte’s mother, Melinda Smart, celebrated after her son was selected in the national team for FIBA. 

Smart went to Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Likewise, the player shined in high school basketball, leading the school to a state title as a freshman, earning MVP honours.

As a freshman, the basketball star averaged 11.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. At the end of the season, Smart declared for the 2019 NBA draft. However, he returned to LSU.

As a sophomore, the emerging athlete secured 12.5 points, 4.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.

As a junior, Smart secured an average of 16 points, 3.7 rebounds, four assists and 1.3 steals per game. Hence, he earned Second Team All-SEC honours.

On November 4, 2022, the player was named to the opening night roster for the Birmingham Squadron.
