Ketanji Onyika Brown was born on September 14, 1970, in Washington, D.C. She comes from a very academic family.
Both of her parents graduated from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Johhny Brown, her father, is the Chief attorney for the Miami-Dade County School Board.
He got his degree from the University of Miami School of law. Jackson’s mother worked as the Principal of the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida.
Jackson was raised in Miami, Florida, and went to Miami Palmetto Senior High School. She also won the national oratory title at the National Catholic Forensic League championships in New Orleans.
Jackson always had high standards and expectations that she set herself. She attended Havard University. She applied to Harvard despite her teacher’s advice to lower her expectations.
She worked as a reporter and researcher for Time magazine from 1992 to 1993 while studying at Harvard Law School.
Ketanji Brown Jackson Career Details
After getting her degree from Harvard, she served as a law clerk under Judge Patti B. Saris of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
After that, she worked under Judge Bruce M. Selya of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit from 1997 to 1998.
She also joined a private law for about a year and went from one private legal practice to another for three years in 2000. She became an assistant special counsel to the United States Sentencing Commission.
In 2009, President Barack Obama nominated her as vice chair of the United States Sentencing Commission.
In 2012, she was again nominated by Obama to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. She slowly climbed to the top, and we can say her best is yet to come.
She was already nominated as a candidate judge of the United States Supreme Court in 2016. However, she didn’t get the job done. She later got the part she deserved in 2015.
