Barbara told Julie who her birth father was in 1950, although it did not become public until 2008.

As World War II started, Julie Andrews’ parents, Barbara and Ted Wells, separated and divorced.

In 1943, Barbara remarried Ted Andrews. In 1944, Ted Wells married Winifred Maud (Hyde) Birkhead, a war widow and former hair stylist he had worked with during the war.
