Thankfully a kind stranger witnessed the accident and immediately dialed 911. Emergency services responded quickly, sending an ambulance and a helicopter to the accident location.

Within moments, she was airlifted to the renowned University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for immediate medical attention. The accident’s severity was evident as doctors discovered her skull had dislocated from her spine, necessitating urgent surgery.

A rod was inserted into her neck, and a plate secured the base of her skull.

Janey’s mother, Heather, described the situation as a miracle. Following the surgical intervention, she remained at UAB Hospital for a grueling six weeks before being transferred to Children’s of Alabama.

Her journey to recovery, paralyzed from the neck down, began immediately with intensive physical treatment at the prestigious medical facility.
