Heather B. Armstrong was an American blogger hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, who gained recognition for her blog writing under the pen name “Dooce.” The name “Dooce” originated from a misspelling of the word “dude” during online conversations with her former colleagues.

Armstrong started her blog in 2001, and within five years, she had amassed a massive audience of 8.5 million monthly viewers. She reportedly earned more than $100,000 annually from banner advertisements on her blog.

Her success as a blogger led to several notable achievements, including an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show and being named one of “The Most Influential Women In Media” by Forbes magazine in 2009.

However, on May 9, 2023, the blogger died by suicide, which was attributed to a relapse of her alcoholism.

At the moment, not much is known about Armstrong’s kids, as they may prefer privacy. She had always respected her children’s privacy and limited the amount of information she shared about them online. It’s unclear whether or not her children will continue to maintain their privacy or choose to share more about their lives in the future.

Heather Armstrong Husband

Heather was previously married to Jon Armstrong, whom she often referred to as “The Ex” on her blog. The couple announced their separation in 2012, which was followed by a divorce later that year.

The announcement came as a surprise to many readers, as she had never written about any marital difficulties and had often praised her husband for his support during her struggles with their children and her depression.

In a blog post on Dooce, the weblogger explained that the couple had been in counseling for years and that Jon was “controlling and punishing.” He expected her to just get over the negative commentary on her blog, which put a significant strain on their relationship. Jon also shared his side of the story on his blog, Blurbomat, where he wrote about his experience with the divorce.

Following the divorce, Jon moved to New York City with his new girlfriend. Meanwhile, the Armstrong children spent the summer with him. The divorce coincided with a decline in the popularity of blogs, as readers started to shift to social media platforms. Despite the divorce and the decline in readership, she continued to write on her blog and found success in other areas.

The blogger started a relationship with Jon Ashdown, a former U.S. Senate candidate, nearly six years ago. The two of them lived together with Heather’s children, Leta and Mario. Jon had three children from a previous marriage who also spent time in their home. Heather did not share much information about her relationship with Jon Ashdown or their family life on her blog.

Heather Armstrong Career

Heather Hamilton, later known as Heather Armstrong, was born on July 19, 1975, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Memphis, Tennessee. Armstrong went on to study English at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she began to experience doubts about the church and struggled with depression.

After graduating in 1997, Armstrong left the church and moved to Los Angeles, where she found work as a web developer during the dot-com boom. It was during this time that she met and married web designer Jon Armstrong. They later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Heather worked as a consultant and designer.

Armstrong ignited a debate about privacy issues when she was fired from her job for writing satirical accounts of her experiences at a dot-com startup on her blog, dooce.com. She accepted text and graphic ads and used Twitter to get her washing machine fixed.

Dooce.com was a major source of income for the Armstrongs, and Armstrong introduced an interactive section to allow readers to post questions and responses. The revenue from Dooce paid salaries to the Armstrongs, an assistant, and two full-time babysitters.
