Anzor Tsarnaev and Zubeidat Tsarnaeva are the father and mother of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

They fled their war-torn homeland in the 1990s and moved to Kyrgyzstan, where Dzhokhar was born, and then to Dagestan, a republic in Russia’s North Caucasus region.

They later moved to the United States in 2002, seeking asylum and a better life for their family.

Anzor Tsarnaev worked as a mechanic, while Zubeidat Tsarnaeva worked as a cosmetologist. They were devout Muslims who followed their customs and traditions.

Dzhokhar parents divorced in 2011, and both returned to Russia in 2012.

Zubeidat Tsarnaeva was accused of shoplifting $1600 worth of clothes from a department store, but she fled to Russia before her trial. Anzor Tsarnaev also had health problems.

Dzhokhar parents were shocked and devastated by the news of their son’s involvement in the bombing.
