Atiq Ahmad, a gangstar-turned politician, and his brother Ashraf were killed in a spectacular shooting outside a hospital in Prayagraj late on Saturday being escorted for medical examination in police custody.
 
The incident occured in the presence of a posse of police officers and media representaives.
 
The brother were attacked by three people, probably posing as reporters, according to the police, and they both passed away immediately.
 
Around 10 O’clock at night, as media personnel followed the two as they were led by police to the hospital for a medical examination, shots were fired. 
 
The close-range gunfire didn’t appear to have hurt anyone else. According to the police, the three attackers were all subdued and held by on-duty officers. 
 
Journalists were present at the scene when three perpetrator opened fire from close range, instantly killing them.

While chatting with the media, Ahmad and Ashraf were attacked brutally, causing a devastating incident.

The executions occurred two days after Ahmad’s son Asad was murdered in a gunfight with the police in Uttar Pradesh, which set off a political uproar over claims that the state government faked the incident.

In the minutes before he was shot dead, Ahmad was quoted as saying, Nahi le Gaye to nahi gaye (They did not take us, so we did not go), in reference to the burial for his son Asad that had taken place earlier in the day.

The occurrence, according to Ahmad’s attorney, Vijay Mishra, was disturbing. According to him, the incident shows that the police failed to ensure their protection.

As anxiety grew in the neighbourhood following the shocking incident, the remains of Ahmad and Ashraf, also known as Khalid Azeem, were removed from the scene.

The two guys were shackled together and lying on the ground with blood pooling around them in photos and videos taken at the scene.

There were at least two firearms there that were reportedly dropped by the assailants. As per the police, everything happened in a matter of seconds.

Atiq Ahmed Brother Shot Dead

Ashraf was shackled next to Atiq as he responded to inquires from reporters. Atiq was suddenly shot in the head by a guy, and Ashraf was also hit before he could respond.

Atiq and Ashraf were attacked by two or three people, who continued firing at them even after they fell to the ground, according to a police officer who was on the scene.

As soon as word of the deaths of Atiq Ahmad and Ashraf appeared on electronic media, Prashant Kumar, the special director general of police (DGP), law and order, and other top officers were summoned to the chief minister’s house.

At the hospital where the brothers were shot to death, Ahmad’s wife, Shaista Parveen, who has fled after being charged in the Umesh Pal case, also made an appearance.

There have been three contentious meetings related to the Umesh Pal murder case, including the passing of Atiq’s son.

Since a local court approved their names for four days, from Thursday afternoon (April 14) to Monday afternoon (April 17), Ahmad and his brother were in police custody. Their daily medical examination has been mandated by the court.
