Laura Jarrett ethnicity is Afro-American.  She is an American journalist and litigation lawyer best known for her work as a political reporter for CNN.

The reporter is also the daughter of the infamous Valerie Jarrerr. Her mother was a Former government employee who served as a Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama.

After graduating, Laura worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Rebecca R. Pallmeyer, District Judge for Northern Illinois.

She has additionally served as a legal assistant to two federal judges in the Northern District of Illinois.

Later, she was appointed as the Honorable Ann C. Williams to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. She has since worked as a top political reporter for CNN.

Together with Christine Romans, she currently serves as “Early Start”‘s co-anchor.

She was born in Chicago on October 29, 1983, to parents Valerie and William. She grew up in a prominent Afro-American family.

Laura attended her hometown’s Chicago Laboratory Schools for high school studies. Later, she relocated to Cambridge to continue her studies. She also enrolled at Harvard Law School, graduating with her Juris Doctor in 2010.

Her innovative writings on gender, violence, and human rights made her a standout among other talented law students. She was the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender’s technical editor and article editor.

The reporter’s mother, Valerie Jarrett, is a Businesswoman and former politician who served as former US President Barack Obama’s top counselor.

Her father, William Jarrett, is a doctor and the son of Vernon Jarrett, a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times.

She is the granddaughter of Chicago Sun-Times journalist Vernon Jarrett. She is the granddaughter of Chicago Sun-Times journalist Vernon Jarrett. She doesn’t have siblings.

Sadly, Jarrett’s parents, who had only been married since 1983, split up when she was barely three years old.

Jarrett’s father passed away in November 1993 at the age of 40, and at that time, he was Jackson Park Hospital’s director of obstetrics and gynecology.

Instead of getting married again, her mother stayed single, devoted her life to public service, and rose to prominence as a member of the Obama Administration’s team.

At Harvard Law School, The journalist met the attorney Tony Balkissoon, who she later married. Tony is the politician’s son; his father Bas Balkissoon, served in the Ontario Legislative Assembly as a Liberal.

The pair wed in Kenwood, Chicago, in 2012. They were with each other during college. Government leaders and lawmakers were present at the wedding.

Even then-President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were at the ceremony to bless the newlyweds.

The co-anchor of CNN Early Start and her husband Tony Balkissoon welcomed their daughter June Tahay on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

The new baby’s name is a combination of the middle names of two women in the couple’s family. The couple is also the parents of a 3-year-old boy James. She gave birth to her son on July 16, 2019.
