In the film, Lagerfeld draws comparisons between fashion magazines and the bible and likens models to angels, suggesting that fashion could be seen as a type of religion in itself.

Karl Lagerfeld Family Background

The fashion icon Lagerfeld was born on September 10, 1933, in Hamburg, Germany, to Elisabeth Bahlmann and Otto Lagerfeld. His parents got married in 1930.

Karl’s Father, Otto, was a businessman and owned a Company, Lagerfeld & Co, that produced and imported evaporated milk.

When she met his Father, his mother was a lingerie saleswoman from Berlin.  Karl’s mother was born in Germany in 1897, in the town of Sigmaringen. Her parents were Karl Bahlmann and Emilie Drecker.

His maternal grandfather was a Catholic Center Party politician in the area.

Lagerfeld’s family belonged to the Old Catholic Church. He had an older sister Martha Christiane and an older half-sister Theodora Dorothea.

Despite his privileged upbringing, Lagerfeld had a keen interest in visual arts from a young age and would often sketch during his school days.

His family was mostly spared from the difficulties of World War II because his Father had business interests in Germany through the firm Glücksklee-Milch GmbH.

Lagerfeld, the renowned fashion designer who passed away in 2019, was a celebrated figure in the fashion industry. Although he had no biological children, he had a godson named Hudson Kroenig, who was very special to him.

Hudson is the son of Brad Kroenig and Nicole Kroenig, both popular models in the fashion world. In addition to Hudson, the couple also has a younger son named Jameson.

Brad and Lagerfeld’s relationship started when they met on a photo shoot for V Man. Lagerfeld was struck by Brad’s good looks and unique features, which made him stand out in a sea of models.

Lagerfeld was thrilled at the honor and took his role as godfather very seriously. Hudson quickly became a favorite of Lagerfeld’s, and the designer even featured him in several of his runway shows for Chanel.

Hudson made his runway debut when he walked in Chanel’s Spring 2011 ready-to-wear fashion show at two years old.
