Unruly law students and a Stanford DEI Dean disrupted the Stanford Federalist Society’s event with Kyle Duncan, a judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Duncan spoke on “Covid, Guns, and Twitter.”
Although the students and the Dean did the protest, Steinbach was at the center of the controversy. She took the podium with a notepad and prepared remarks, ready to criticize the judge, despite Judge Duncan’s request for an administrator to calm the audience.
When Judge Kyle attempted to interfere, the students yelled, “Let her continue!” and Steinbach easily completed her statement.
Steinbach further stated that the government upholds free expression and that the greatest way to deal with hate speech is with more speech, not fewer, and not to shut it down or censor it.
Later, Judge Kyle received an apology from Dean Jenny Martinez and Stanford President Marc Tessier-Lavigne for the disturbance that Steinbach is accused of starting.
Nevertheless, some believe that any administrator who openly supports disruptive acts against free speech must be fired, and Stanford must try to purge its administration of such fanatics.
