Professor Rod Githens Case – Explained

According to sources, the case against Githens, who was detained on Friday, started to develop less than a month ago.

Using the terms “dirty,” “discreet,” “curious,” and “parent,” the FBI created an undercover Grindr profile on March 25.

Looking for the tag “Parent,” a “tall, laid-back” user going by the name of “Tod” contacted the covert profile within an hour.

Tod asked the undercover agent if they could move their communication over to Telegram, which is end-to-end encrypted since he was hesitant to continue the conversation on Grindr.

On April 7, Tod promised to deliver an Ariel doll and a Hershey bar for the fictitious niece of the undercover agent. The FBI compared Tod’s selfie with Githens’ official California driver’s license photo less than a week after “Tod” initially got in touch with them. They also looked at his professor bio on the University of the Pacific website.

After finding the man’s real identity, the FBI kept his house under surveillance. On April 19, he agreed to meet the 7-year-old girl, who was an FBI agent.

However, one day before the meeting, the professor canceled. The FBI wanted to apprehend the man, so they ordered the local police to text him, claiming that some of the parcels he reported as stolen were now available for collection at the police station.

West Sacramento police officers stopped him as soon as he got into his car and started to drive away and found numerous chats in which he discussed assaulting young children and exchanged films of horrifying child abuse, including rape.
