Jinich was born into a Jewish household in Mexico City and raised there. She is the youngest of four sisters, and her grandparents were Eastern European Jewish refugees. During World War II, the author’s maternal grandfather moved from Bratislava to Mexico and started a silver business.

The food writer’s grandmother, a seamstress, moved from her home near Vienna to Mexico after stopping in New York. They were first linked in Europe and then again in Mexico. Her mother managed an art gallery, while her father was an architect who later became a restaurateur.

Growing up, food played a significant role in Jinich’s family life. The cook’s three elder sisters all began their careers in the culinary arts at a young age, but she grew up wanting to be an academic. She graduated with a master’s degree in Latin American studies from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the “Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico.” Before changing careers, she worked as a political analyst for the Inter-American Dialogue, a think tank in Washington, DC.

The TV personality’s sister Karen works as a chef in Mexico City, and her other sister Sharon is a designer and the creator of several vegetarian recipes, while Alisa, a third sister, is a pastry chef and is married to former Telemundo CEO Emilio Romano.

Daniel has had an extremely prosperous commercial career. From 1984 to 1988, Jinich attended the University of Pennsylvania due to his love of business. He earned an economics degree from the university and graduated. Daniel earned his college degree, but his pursuit of knowledge continued.

In 1990, he enrolled in the esteemed Harvard Business School, where he received his MBA in 1992. After finishing his studies, Daniel wasted no time applying the knowledge he had learned. In 1993, he established Coin Acuacultura as his own company.

He served as CEO of the business until 1996. Later, he established Acon Investments, L.L.C., in collaboration with several business associates. The business manages venture capital and private equity funds and is based in Washington, DC. The business has managed more than $5.5 billion in the capital since its 1996 founding. The managing partner of the business is Daniel.

Alan, Samuel, and Julian are the names of the couple’s three kids. Jinich has a sweet manner of addressing her sons and is fond of them. She refers to kids Sami as “Samito” and Julian as “Juju.”
