Nick Gilbert had been a notable figure in the NBA community. Nick Gilbert condition had not stopped him from enjoying his life. However, sadly he passed away at the age of 26.

Nick Gilbert was an American sports executive who is the son of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

He is known for his involvement in the Cavaliers’ successful draft lottery selections in 2011 and 2013, which resulted in the team drafting Kyrie Irving and Anthony Bennett, respectively.

Nick was born with a rare genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis, which has caused him to have a number of surgeries and health issues throughout his life.

Despite this, he was a beloved figure in the Cavaliers organization and the NBA community and had helped raise awareness and funds for neurofibromatosis research.

Nick Gilbert was suffering from a rare genetic condition called neurofibromatosis (NF1). Nick was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis when he was a child.

This condition causes non-cancerous tumors to grow on nerve pathways throughout the body. There is no known cure for the illness. Nick had been fighting this condition since he was a child.

He underwent several surgeries, including brain surgery, to remove some of the tumors. He also participated in clinical trials and research to find a cure for neurofibromatosis.

Nick and his family founded the Gilbert Family Foundation, which has funded more than $18 million in grants for neurofibromatosis research.

Despite his illness, Nick was known for his positive attitude, love for basketball, and iconic bow tie.  He became famous for representing the Cavaliers at the NBA draft lottery in 2011.

However, Nick Gilbert passed away on Sunday, May 07, 2023,  at the age of 26, due to neurofibromatosis.

According to his obituary, Nick Gilbert died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his parents, his siblings, and his grandparents.

Nick Gilbert Parents – who are they?

Nick Gilbert was the son of Dan Gilbert and Jennifer Gilbert, two prominent figures in the business and philanthropic world.

Dan Gilbert is the co-founder and owner of Rocket Mortgage, a mortgage lending giant, and the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, an NBA team.

Jennifer Gilbert is a television personality and entrepreneur. She is the founder and CEO of Save the Date, a special events organizing firm located in New York.

Additionally, Jennifer Gilbert helped establish the Gilbert Family Foundation in 2015 with the goal of promoting NF research. Nick had four siblings named Gracie, AJ, Nash, and Grant.

Nick Gilbert was born in 1997. He was 28 years old when he passed away.

Nick was beloved in the NBA community, especially among Cavaliers fans. He was nicknamed “Mr. Cavalier” by former general manager David Griffin and “Lucky Charm” by LeBron James.

The Cavaliers dedicated their 2022-23 season to Nick Gilbert and the millions of others affected by neurofibromatosis.  Nick was also a passionate fan of the team and a source of inspiration for many.

Gilbert also lifted the NBA Finals trophy in 2016, when the Cavaliers won their first championship. He also enjoyed sports, music, movies, and spending time with his family and friends.

Nick was also generous and compassionate, inspiring many people with his bravery and positivity. He was honored with the NBA’s Community Assist Award in 2012 for his philanthropic efforts.

Nick Gilbert was a remarkable young man who touched many lives with his courage and inspiration. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
