Brad Battin and Richard Riordan, two other lawmakers, tried to delay the expulsion by a week, but they were unsuccessful, losing the vote 18 to 11.

While efforts to expel Moira from the parliamentary party over her involvement in an anti-trans rights protest threaten to destabilize the Coalition, Liberal MPs are pleading with leader John Pesutto to find a less severe punishment for her.

Two-thirds of Liberal MPs voted against a plan to indefinitely postpone a party room meeting to remove her next week, but other Liberals are supporting the newly elected upper house member for the Western Metropolitan Area.

Three MPs who were reached by The Age revealed that Liberal lawmakers, including those who dissented from the motion on Tuesday, were pushing for different punishments that would spare Deeming.
 
One Liberal MP who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal issues said, The alternatives we are recommending are to suspend her for up to six months and/or fine her and write her a letter of apology.
