On August 31, 2019, Kimesha Williams and her accomplice, Candace Townsel, followed 84-year-old Afaf Assad into a bathroom at the Pechanga Resort Casino near Temecula.
They attacked and robbed Assad, leaving her with a cracked skull and a deep laceration on her arm. Assad died in the hospital four days later.
Williams and Townsel were arrested on September 3, 2019, after surveillance footage and witnesses linked them to the crime.
They were charged with first-degree murder, robbery, and elder abuse. Prosecutors said they targeted Assad because of her age and vulnerability.
Leonard did not have any involvement in the crime and has not publicly commented on it. Williams’ aunt confirmed their relationship with the media.
They were both convicted in February 2023 after a one-month trial and two hours of jury deliberations. They were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on April 23, 2023.

Kimesha’s parents are Kim Leonard and Mark Leonard, often known as Kawhi Leonard.

Kimesha also has a cousin named Stevie Johnson, an American football wide receiver.
