John Tavares brother: The former professional box lacrosse player’s brother is a person of interest among ice hockey fans as he is the father of the famous ice hockey player who goes by the same name as his uncle.

John Tavares is a former professional box lacrosse player from Canada who is now the head coach of the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). He is the all-time highest scorer in the NLL and also teaches mathematics at Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

The athlete spent his entire NLL career with the Buffalo Bandits, beginning with their first season in 1992. In October 1991, he was acquired from the Detroit Turbos in exchange for Brian Nikula. He also served as the Bandits’ Professional Lacrosse Players’ Association representative.

The player holds the NLL record for most games played (306), goals (815), assists (934), and points (1,749). His 2,191 recovered loose balls rank second all-time.

The Tavares brothers were raised in Toronto, Ontario, and are of Portuguese origin.

Not much is known about him but his son is following in the footsteps of his uncle and he excelled at lacrosse. The younger John credits his uncle for teaching him the value of being selfless, claiming that following his uncle with the Bandits has made him a better person and hockey player.

Speaking of his ice hockey career, on Saturday, February 18, 2006, the Buffalo Bandits defeated the Minnesota Swarm 14-9 in front of 12,458 fans at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York. John tied Gary Gait’s NLL Career Points (goals + assists) record of 1,091 points in the game.

On March 4, 2006, 10,961 people witnessed history. On that night, the Buffalo Bandits hosted the Minnesota Swarm in their seventh regular season game, and he scored two points in an 11-8 loss.

The first was his record-breaking 1,092nd career point, an assist to Mark Steenhuis on a power-play goal at 11:57 in the second period. (In the third quarter, the second point, Point 1,093, was likewise an assist to Steenhuis.) The game was called off, and he received the game ball.

Tavares scored his 597th career goal (against goalie Matt Vinc) in a win over the New York Titans on Saturday, January 20, 2008, passing Gary Gait and becoming the NLL’s all-time leader in goals scored. He earned his fourth championship on May 17, 2008, and his first since 1996. With two of his goals, the Bandits defeated the Portland Lumberjax in the championship game.

He was named to the NLL All-Star Game during the 2009 season. Throughout his hockey career, he has played 344, has a career goal of 899, and was the first player in NLL history to have 500 goals and 500 assists.

Tavares has seven “Mann Cup” victories and the “Mike Kelley Memorial Trophy” as the most valuable player. He also won eight Major Series Lacrosse scoring titles and three “MSL Most Valuable Player awards,” and was a member of the Mississauga Tomahawks in Ontario Junior A lacrosse.

And lastly talking about the player’s religion he is speculated to be a follower of Christianity given that his family members i.e. his brother is Roman Catholic by religion.
