Meet James Magnussen Parents Robert And Donna

James, the retired Australian swimmer and Olympic medalist, grew up with a competitive spirit that drove him to try and outdo his father, Rob Magnussen, in every way possible.

Rob, a former reserve grade rugby league player for the Western Suburbs, would often engage in 25-meter races with his son at the Birrong Leisure Centre pool during summer holidays.

Despite having to work hard to beat his father, he finally succeeded when he became one of the best junior swimmers in Australia.

However, at his first school swimming carnival at six years old, the former athlete effortlessly beat his classmates with minimal training. This victory sparked a love for swimming in him, and he has since become one of Australia’s most successful swimmers.
