In 2006, Cissy collaborated with her daughter Whitney Houston and her niece Dionne Warwick to record ‘Family First’ for the soundtrack of the movie Daddy’s Little Girls.

Four years later, in 2010, Cissy accompanied her daughter Whitney to the third annual BEt Honours, where Whitney was honored with the entertainment award.

During the 2012 BET Music Awards tribute to Whitney, Cissy performed “Bridge over Troubled Water.”

During the early years of their relationship, John was still married to his first wife, Elsie Hamilton.

Cissy’s first marriage ended in divorce in April 1964, and she and John married the following month.

John, who was a former Army veteran, started his career in the entertainment industry as a manager for his nieces-in-law’s vocal group, the Gospelaires, in 1959.

Later, he managed The Sweet Inspirations until Houston left the group to pursue her solo career in 1969.

However, after John survived a near-fatal heart attack in 1976, his and Cissy’s marriage turned turbulent. They legally separated in 1977, but they remained married until 1991.

In her 2013 book, Remembering Whitney: My Story of Love, Loss, and the Night the Music Stopped, Cissy recounted an incident in 2005 when she visited Whitney’s home with then-husband Bobby Brown and saw walls and doors painted with strange and disturbing images.

On February 11, 2012, Whitney died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

After her daughter’s death, Emily criticized the media’s coverage of the events, expressing her dislike for people who claimed to know everything when they didn’t.
