A few months after Monjack’s passing, Britanny’s mother, Sharon Murphy, tried selling the house for $7.25 million.
She was successful in selling it for $2.7 million in July 2011. The house had a reputation for being “haunted” following its owner’s unexpected passing; thus, selling it was difficult.
After her parents divorced, her mother raised Brittany in a Baptist home in Edison, New Jersey, along with two half-brothers and a half-sister.
In order to advance her profession, Murphy actually asked her mother if they could relocate to Los Angeles, and her mother approved.
For the sake of her daughter to pursue her prospective career, her mother moved the whole family to Los Angeles in 1991.
As for her love life, Brittany’s first high-profile relationship was with actor and model Ashton Kutcher in 2002.
She then dated several other individuals within the entertainment industry.

In the end, Murphy wed Simon Monjack, a British screenwriter, in May 2007 in a secret Jewish ceremony. The two then spent their final few years living together in a house in Los Angeles.
According to reports, Brittany passed out on December 20, 2009, in her Los Angeles residence. Firefighters unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate.
Unfortunately, after being taken to a local hospital, she passed away a short while later.
Cardiac arrest was reported as the cause of death. However, months later, authorities revealed that her primary cause of death was pneumonia.
Brittany Murphy | Charity
The Brittany Murphy Foundation was established in January 2010 by Murphy’s mother Sharon and her widower Simon Monjack to promote children’s arts education, the USO, and cancer research.
In February 2010, the foundation launched a fundraiser event at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California.
An examination of the foundation’s documents revealed that the foundation’s not-for-profit status had not been filed.
The foundation’s website then briefly went offline before reopening a few days later with a notice announcing that donations would no longer be accepted.
According to a statement published on the foundation’s website, Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, formally reopened the Brittany Murphy Foundation in November 2013.
No information on the charity has surfaced since the passing of Murphy’s father in January 2019 at the age of 92.
