The last of Us actress Bella Ramsey recently revealed her gender identity in an interview with The New York Times. She opened up as a gender-fluid person.

The actress said, ” I am very much just a person.” She expressed that she didn’t prefer to be called a specific gender and be labeled.

Bella gave a carefree reaction about pronouns saying, ” I couldn’t care less.” She said, ” someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her,’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he,’ it was a bit exciting.”

In another interview with GQ, she revealed that being called a “young woman” is bothersome.

“This is what bothers me more than pronouns: Being called a ‘young woman’ or a ‘powerful young woman,’ ‘young lady,’ but I’m just not, ” Bella said to GQ.

Further, she said, “Catherine Called Birdy; I was in dresses. Young Elizabeth, I was in a closet. And I felt super powerful in that. Playing these more feminine characters is a chance to be something opposite to myself, and it’s enjoyable.”

Bella is portraying a queer character in her most recent series, The last of Us. This is very rare for a main character in the game on which this show is based to be gay.

The showrunners and Bella received a lot of criticism because of it. She says it’s not letting it get to her. ” If you don’t want to watch a show because it has a gay storyline, because it has a trans character, that’s on you, and you’re missing out.”

Ramsey was also nominated in the gender-neutral category for Best Young Performance by critics’ choice for her role of Lady Catherine.
