Randy, his father, held the job until 2006 and was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by South Carolina’s governor in 2018 for his efforts. Randy died three days after Maggie and Paul were murdered.

Mr Murdaugh carried on the family legacy by working as an attorney at the local prosecutor’s office as well as at his own law company, PMPED (the M standing for Murdaugh).

He married Maggie, whom he met in college, and they had two boys, Buster and Paul. Mr Murdaugh enrolled into treatment in September 2021 after the killings of his wife and kid revealed that he had a two-decade-long opiate addiction.

Maggie and Paul were discovered shot dead at the kennels of the family’s vast hunting lodge in Islandton on June 7, 2021. Mr Murdaugh claimed to have discovered their dead, making a dramatic 911 call during which he grieved and wailed.

The victims were killed using two separate weapons Maggie was shot five times with an automatic rifle and Paul was shot twice with a shotgun, once in the head and once in the chest.

Alex Murdaugh, a disgraced former South Carolina attorney on trial for murder in the deaths of his wife and son, finished six hours of testimony, primarily under cross-examination.

Murdaugh has pled not guilty to two counts of murder and two weapons charges in the deaths of Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh and her 22-year-old son Paul Murdaugh at the family’s farm in Islandton, South Carolina, in June 2021.
