Randy was married to Lisa Reeves. Nonetheless, their marriage did not last long when they split up without a divorce in 2001.
An investigation into the murders showed that Lisa contemplated divorcing him but could not carry it out.
However, she had moved to Lee County, Arkansas, to live with her mother, Sylvia Reeves, and her grandparents, Palestine.
Gordon arrived at Lisa’s mother’s house on February 13, 2007, and began a dispute about money and credit cards.
Once an argument heated, he became aggressive and struck out at her. Sylvia threatened Randy with a call to the police if he didn’t leave. Once he began hitting her mother, Lisa fled the scene.
She used her phone to call 911 while hiding in her grandparents’ room and escaped after hearing a gunshot and using her brother Travis’ house next door as shelter.
Randall shot Travis five times when they were at the crime site. He also shot the first cop to arrive on the scene. The officer received critical injuries.
Gwatthney managed to flee before additional law enforcement officials arrived. The injured victims were rushed to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Randy went to an ATM in Palestine, Arkansas, and withdrew $100 from his account after killing three people and seriously injuring two more. The killer was attempting to flee into Mexico when authorities tracked him down using his withdrawal timings.
However, he was captured in Laredo, Texas, brought to Arkansas 12 hours later, after the incident, and detained despite being armed and attempting to resist arrest.
Gwathney was found guilty of the allegations against him in 2008 after attempting to defend himself with post-traumatic stress disorder.
The killer was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment and 40 years. He is still alive now, serving his sentence in prison.
Who are Randy Gwathney’s victims?
Gwathney’s victims were Lisa’s family members, including a police officer who arrived as the first responder.
Randy first shot Lisa’s mother, Sylvia,51, then her parents James, 81, and Evelyn, 79. The elderly couple died instantly after being shot.
Lisa escaped to her brother Travis’s house and called 911. Gordon then went on to shoot him and the police officer multiple times, injuring them heavily.
Although Travis and the officer were shot fatally, they survived, but Lisa’s mother and her grandparents lost their lives.
Of all the victims, only Lisa could survive without getting shot by him.
