Maurice was determined to overcome his problems, so he chose to go to rehab. He contacted Yvonne and told her he was trying to beat his problem. For Yvonne, that call was a turning point she had been looking forward to.

The musician was married to Scottish pop star Lulu before he married Yvonne. The couple married on February 18, 1969, but they broke up in 1973 because of the stress of their jobs and his drinking.
