David Gilbert, an American radical communist, was involved in the deadly 1981 robbery of a Brinks armored vehicle.
Chesa was 14 months old when his parents, Weather Underground members, left him with a babysitter to engage in the armored car robbery.
Unfortunately, the heist became a nightmare, killing two police officers and a Brinks truck guard in a New York suburb.
Kathy Boudin, Chesa’s mother, also had a significant role in this crime and served 23 years in prison for felony murder related to the Brinks robbery. She was released on parole in 2003.
Tragedy struck the Boudin family again on May 1, 2022, when Kathy Boudin died in New York City at 78. She had been battling cancer for seven years.
Gilbert was accused of robbery and murder for his role in the crime despite being unarmed, and he was sentenced to 75 years to life in jail. He was released in 2021.

His mother received a sentence of 20 years to life, while his father faced 75 years to life, both for the felony murders of two police officers and a security guard.
With his parents imprisoned, he found a new home in Hyde Park, Chicago, where he was adopted and raised by Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, members of the Weather Underground, a radical left-wing organization.

Chesa was born on August 21, 1980, in New York City. He started his academic journey at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and later pursued his undergraduate studies at Yale College.
He has rewarded a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship and embarked on a new education chapter at St Antony’s College, Oxford. At Oxford, he delved into forced migration and public policy in Latin America, earning two master’s degrees.
In 2011, he graduated from Yale Law School with a Juris Doctor.
After graduating, he joined the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office in 2012 as a post-doctoral fellow.
