The Canadian actress identifies as Tamil Canadian and follows Hinduism, as her parents were Sri Lankan descendants. 

Although the actor was born and brought up in a foreign land, she is very much rooted in her culture and religion.

After completing her studies, instead of starting the New York University theatre program immediately, she postponed her acceptance to focus on her acting project.

Once she completed her studies, she began auditioning for movies and TV shows.

Meanwhile, actor and creator Mindy Kaling also admitted that Maitreyi was the perfect choice for her series as it reflects on her own roots while putting fellow nerds from the same communities.

Maitreyi, in an interview with PTI, said that people enjoy the show because usually South Asians in leading roles are not seen as much as they should.

As being from a Hindu community, she was a bit nervous about portraying a role of her culture for fear of letting her fans down. But she is acing her role in every possible way.

Maitreyi was born on 28 December 2001 to her parents, Ram Selvarajah and Kiruthiha Kulendiren. She was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Her parents had immigrated to Canada as refugees following the civil war in Sri Lanka.

Maitreyi parents are Eelam Tamils, also known as Sri Lankan Tamils, making the Canadian national of Tamil ethnicity.

Her father is an IT expert, whereas her mother works in marketing.

The diva also has a brother Vishwaa Ramakrishnan who is older than her.

The actor high-schooled at Meadowvale Secondary School. After her last year at the school, she decided to pursue a career in the field of acting.

The growing actor has quite an influence among her fans as she is from the GenZ generation.

Her humor is just the same as Devi Vishwakumar’s in real life, which is also one of the factors that she is able to play her roles smoothly.
