The university released a statement after his passing: “Andre Watts passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He will live in our hearts forever. RIP.”

In a statement released by the University officials further added, The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is deeply saddened to announce André Watts’s death, distinguished professor of piano and the Jack I. and Dora B. Hamlin Endowed Chair in Music.”
