On May 24, 2004, a tragic incident unfolded when Brooke went missing from the Oak Park Apartments in Corvallis, Oregon, where she was employed for the summer.

The last person to see Carol was her sister, Stephanie, who managed the apartment complex. She recalled observing her filling a bucket of water at approximately 10 a.m.
However, Stephanie grew worried when her sister didn’t show up for lunch as expected.
Upon further investigation, she discovered Brooke’s broken flip-flops and an empty bucket near a lamp post. Unfortunately, there was no trace of her sister.
