Ian McGinty, a native of St. Margaret’s neighborhood, had a remarkable upbringing. He was raised in a famous military family and was born in Annapolis, Maryland, on May 6, 1985.

His father, James Thomas McGinty, previously a Merchant Mariner, now contributes to the Department of the Navy, constructing oceanographic ships.

Meanwhile, his paternal grandfather was William “Mac” B. McGinty Jr., a Naval Academy graduate in 1948. During the Korean War, he worked as a jet fighter pilot and later became a Navy test pilot for early jet aircraft.

On the maternal side, Ian’s grandfather, James Swensen, held the rank of Army Lt. Colonel in the Office of Strategic Services, a forerunner to the CIA.

Even his great-grandfather, William B. McGinty, Sr., played a significant role in history as a pilot and flight instructor during World War I.

Ian’s path separated from his military roots when he graduated from Broadneck High in 2003. Discovering his artistic abilities while pursuing an associate’s degree at Anne Arundel Community College, he embarked on a creative journey to shape his future.
