Pilavachi has been accused of forming inappropriate relationships with young people, with allegations spanning at least three decades, as recent as 2020, according to The Telegraph.

Former staff members and alleged victims have come forward to accuse the former vicar of operating a cult that encouraged young men to receive full-body oil massages on his bed and engage in wrestling matches.

The victims also claimed that his bullying, spiritual abuse, “toxic behavior,” and “horrible cruelty and obsession” with certain young men were an “open secret” within the organization, with no action being taken.

In response to the allegations, the Church of England National Safeguarding Team (NST), St Albans Diocese, and the Soul Survivor Watford trustees launched an internal investigation, with Pilavachi stepping back from his ministry in April 2023.

However, recent reports reveal that the allegations against him include both recent and past victims.

Alleged victims criticized the church’s updated statement and questioned the efficacy of the ongoing church investigation, claiming that the NST is not independent and that a truly independent organization should investigate the case.
