Leidy was seven months pregnant with their kids at their marriage. She gave birth to a daughter, Dushy van der Sloot, in Peru on September 28th, 2014.
Weighing a healthy eight pounds, Dushy was born in Lima’s Perinatal and Maternity Hospital, a far cry from the remote prison where Joran was serving a lengthy 28-year sentence.
They chose daughter name Dushy to honor Van der Sloot’s grandma.
Due to the high altitude of the area around the jail, Dushy must wait until she is grown to see her Father.

In a surprising turn of events on 4th July 2014, Joran Van der Sloot, the convicted murderer and prime suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, married Leidy Figueroa.
She is a Peruvian woman he met while selling goods inside the Lima prison where he was incarcerated.
The ceremony occurred within the prison walls and was presided over by John Barrera, the Mayor of Ancón District.
Video and photos were not allowed during the midday wedding, and none of the groom’s family were there, according to his lawyer, Maximo Altez.
Joran promised Leidy he would marry her again when he exited prison. He wore a suit and dress shoes that his mother had sent him.
Despite the gravity of Van der Sloot’s crimes, Figueroa, a trainee accountant, insists that her husband has changed since their unlikely prison romance began four years ago.

Joran Van Der, the perpetrator of the murders, was born on August 6, 1987. Currently, he is 36 years old. He is a Dutch citizen who became famous for his role in the 2005 kidnapping of Natalee Holloway, an American college student who was in Aruba.
In 2010, he was also found guilty of killing Stephany Flores Ramirez in Peru.
His father, Paulus van der Sloot, worked as a lawyer, while his mother, Anita van der Sloot-Hugen, pursued a career as an art teacher. Joran was one of three sons in the family.
On June 22, 2005, his Father, Paulus van der Sloot, was taken into custody for questioning regarding Holloway’s disappearance.
After three days of interrogation, he was released on June 26. Sadly, on February 10, 2010, he died from a heart attack at 57 while playing tennis in Aruba.
Some speculated that his sudden death might have been linked to the stress caused by his son’s legal troubles, although no concrete evidence supports this claim.
Joran’s mother, Anita, stayed out of the public eye since her son was arrested and convicted.
