As of March 1, 2023, she holds the top position in the UFC women’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Regarded by many as the greatest female mixed martial artist in history, Nunes was the first woman to become a two-division UFC champion.
She also joined an exclusive group of fighters, including Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier, by holding UFC titles in two different weight classes.

Meet Amanda Nunes Parents, Ivete And Sindoval Nunes
Amanda was was born on May 30, 1988, in Pojuca, a small town outside of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, to her parents Ivete and Sindoval Nunes.
Following her parents’ separation when she was four years old, Nunes and her sisters stayed with their mother, Ivete.
In order to support the family as a single parent, Mrs. Ivete took on various additional jobs, such as selling hot dogs, sweets, and beauty products, in addition to her role as a school administrative assistant.
Initially, Nunes’ father did not support her fighting career, but later he started supporting his daughter.
The martial artist has also characterized her mother, Ivete, as a loving yet strict parent.
Ivete actively encouraged Amanda to engage in sports to channel her abundant energy.
Similarly, a Brazilian MMA fighter has said to MMA Fighting, “My mother used to box, and I followed her footsteps into training. She loves fighting. My uncle used to fight Vale Tudo, and my mother even cornered him in some of his fights.”
Only a little about her father, Sindoval Nunes, is known to the public.
Moreover, the UFC champion is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and also a brown belt in Judo.
Also, she is the first openly lesbian UFC champion, and she is married to Nina Nunes, a former UFC fighter who competed in the strawweight division.

Amanda has two older sisters, Valdirene and Vanessa. After discovering her immense passion for sports, the athlete opted to move to Salvador and reside with Vanessa, who was already living there, to pursue jiu-jitsu training.
Her sister played a crucial role in introducing Nunes to the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, marking her first competitive experience in the sport.
Additionally, during her teenage years, Nunes was introduced to boxing.
Only a little information about her sister Vanessa is known to the world as she is low-key and likes to keep her personal life confidential.
However, we know that Vanessa has played pivotal in defining her little sister’s career.
Her other sister Valdirene expresses her immediate support, stating, “We all supported her right away. My mother put Amanda to train Capoeira when she was young, and then boxing and jiu-jitsu. We literally supported her from day one.”
She further added, “I knew she would have a bright future in sports. My mother and I, we always believed in her. It was written; it’s her destiny. I never doubted she would become champion one day. We never doubted that.”
From here, we can understand that the MMA fighter has a close pact with her sisters, who have been her pillars of support since day one.
