According to court documents, Kouri Richins made her husband a Moscow mule on the night of his death and brought it to their bedroom, where he drank it and later died.

An autopsy revealed that he had five times the lethal dosage of fentanyl in his system.

Kouri Richins denied any involvement in her husband’s death and claimed that she wrote the book to help her three sons and other children deal with grief.

She pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. She may face a possible sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted. Her lawyer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Kouri Richins was taken into custody on Monday and accused of committing serious crimes.

Specifically, she has been charged with one count of first-degree felony aggravated murder and three counts of second-degree felony possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Kouri Richins was married to Eric Richins. They were married for 12 years. They lived in Kamas, a small mountain town near Park City, Utah.

Eric Richins was a contractor who owned his own business, Richins Construction. He was 39 years old when he died.

Kouri Richins bought fentanyl pills from an acquaintance twice in February and March 2022. She allegedly laced Eric’s drink with the drug on March 3, 2022, and called 911 when she found him unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead shortly after. Investigators found evidence that she deleted text messages from the night of her husband’s death and may have tried to poison him before on Valentine’s Day 2022.

Eric Richins had told a friend that he believed his wife was trying to poison him after he became ill and broke out in hives following a dinner at their home.
