According to the Guardian, suspected Australian drug trafficker Hakan Ayik has been arrested in Turkey. Moreover, he and 36 others involved in an “international armed organized crime” group were arrested, as the Turkish officials say.

The authorities sought some individuals, and the arrests allegedly occurred in Istanbul, the US, and New Zealand.

Ali Yerlikaya, Turkey’s interior minister, took to Twitter to announce the “armed, organised crime ring” that was involved in global drug trafficking and money laundering.

Likewise, the group was based in Australia and led by Ayik, as reported by the officials.

44-year-old Hakan Ayik remains listed on the NSW Police website as among its “most wanted individuals.” Reportedly, he was involved in supplying huge commercial quantities of drugs.

Ayik also has been referred to in the media as “the Facebook gangster.”

In 2021, Ayik was listed alongside seventeen people across the world to be charged in an FBI indictment in the US. Allegedly, he and the 17 involved violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (Rico) Act.

Ayik subsequently took over the management of the criminal organization and continued criminal pursuit.
