After making a remarkable recovery, he embarked on a loan spell at Stoke City in the Championship during the previous season. However, following the international break, he is set to return to his parent club, Southampton.

Smallbone recently bid farewell to the Stoke City faithful after their last home game against Queens Park Rangers, marking the conclusion of a highly productive and immensely satisfying loan time.
