Derek Hough Religion: Is He Mormon?

Professional dancer and choreographer Derek Hough grew up in a Latter-day Saint family in Sandy, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City.

As suggested by an article published by the US Weekly, Hough no longer considers himself a member of the church.

The Dancing with the Stars fame described his childhood as “very Mormon” in his August 2014 memoir, Taking the Lead: Lessons From a Life in Motion.

Moreover, the dancer is less active regarding sharing his religious affiliations and focuses more on his career.

Reportedly, his family members recounted how Derek was a very hardworking child. His sister, Julianne Hough, revealed to the New York Post in an interview in 2013, saying: 

No sex before marriage, no drinking, no R-rated movies, no caffeine, no smoking, no swear words.

The Footloose star said that she grew up in a strict household. 

He used to practice dancing, which was significantly not so prevalent in the area he grew up.

Also, the fact that Derek hasn’t been involved in any religious controversy is a benefit for him having millions of fans.

Derek Hough family Background And Ethnicity Revealed 

Professional dancer Derek Hough was born the fourth of five children to his parents Marianne and Bruce Hough. Likewise, his family raised him in Orem, Utah. 

The dancer has a sister, Julianne, who is a famous Hollywood actress. Also, he has three other siblings, Sharee, Marabeth, and Katherine.

Derek comes from a family of performers as he has dancing in his genes. Reportedly, his grandparents were dancers.

Also, Hough’s parents met while on a ballroom dancing team in college, as suggested by Taste of Country.

Hough’s father Bruce Hough, has served as a chairman of the Utah Republican Party two times. Also, he ran for Utah’s 2nd congressional district in 2023. 

Besides, Derek and his celebrity sister, Julianne, are the second cousins of musicians Riker, Rydel, Rocky, Ryland Lynch, and Ross Lynch. 

Hough learned with the best dance coaches Corky and Shirley Ballas.

He was 12 when his parents were separated. The dancer with his close sister moved to London, where the brother and sister duo eventually joined the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
