Denis is the son of  Viktor and Tessa Shapovalov. 

His mother, Tessa was a professional tennis player who represented the Soviet Union National Tennis Team.

When the Soviet Union fell apart,  Shapovalov’s mom moved to Israel with his father and eventually started to coach tennis.

Meanwhile, his father, Viktor worked as a trader in Israel before the family relocated to Ontario, Canada.

There is little information available about Viktor. He prefers to maintain a private social status, keeping details about his life away from the public eye.

At the age of five, the young star started playing tennis in Ontario, where his mother, Tessa, opened her own tennis academy called Tessa Tennis.

The academy has supported Denis and helped numerous other students develop their tennis skills.

Denis was born on April 15, 1999, in Israel. As mentioned above, his parents are Tessa and Victor Shapovalov.

In addition, his mother was raised as a Jewish and his father is an Eastern Orthodox Christian. His family was from Russia and moved to Israel in the 1980s.

Denis’s brother is Evgeniy who is older than him. Even though there is not much information about his kin, they all seem to have a close bond with each other.

Moving on to his romantic life, Denis is currently in a relationship with Mirjam Bjorklund, the Swedish tennis player.

The couple started dating in 2019, and since then they have been seen cheering and supporting each other.

Recently, they celebrated their 4th anniversary by posting a sweet message on Instagram.
