Cori Anika Bush has recently gained attention after being investigated over campaign spending. She is an accomplished American politician, nurse, and pastor.

Bush has also been involved in several campaigns, serving as a Black Lives Matter activist. Moreover, she has served as the U.S. representative for Missouri’s 1st congressional district, since 2021.

Her district includes all of the city of St. Louis and most of northern St. Louis County. Being a member of the Democratic Party, Bush defeated 10-term incumbent Lacy Clay on August 4, 2020, in the U.S. House of Representatives primary election. 

Bush was born on July 21, 1976. Likewise, she is the first African-American woman from Missouri to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

Largely viewed as a historic upset, she advanced to the November general election in a solidly Democratic congressional district.

Cori earlier participated in the Democratic primary for the district in 2018 and the 2016 U.S. Senate election in Missouri.

Furthermore, the politician was featured in the 2019 Netflix documentary Knock Down the House, covering her first primary challenge to Clay. 

Bush also severs as a member of The Squad in the House of Representatives.

Meet Cori Bush Children Zion And Angel

Cori Bush has two children, Zion and Angel. Reportedly, she has a sad story, struggling as a parent.

For 14 months, Bush and her estranged husband lived in their car with their young children. This happened because they were evicted as a loss of income after an illness during her second pregnancy.

Unfortunately, the circumstances compelled her to quit her preschool job.

Bush currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri. In May 2021, the politician revealed that during her first pregnancy, she informed her doctor of severe pain but they ignored her.

She testified to the House Oversight and Reform Committee as a result went into pre-term labor. Likewise, in a subsequent tweet, she wrote:

Every day, Black birthing people and our babies die because our doctors don’t believe our pain.

The politician attributed the event to the “harsh and racist treatment” that Black women face during childbirth.

Cori Bush Husband And Married Life Explored

Politician Cori Bush has been married twice. In February 2023, Bush tied the knot with Cortney Merritts. Her husband is a security specialist and U.S. Army veteran.

As of now, the two are under investigation, and some of the complaints, center around her husband, Cortney Merrits, and his role as part of her campaign and security personnel. She said: 

I retained my husband as security team to give security services because he has extensive expertise in this area. 

These frivolous complaints have consequences in several investigations, a few of which are ongoing.

Moreover, the Office of Congressional Ethics investigated her allegations as Bush concluded that her husband gave “bona fide” security work and did not appear to be overcompensate

Cori Bush Latest Update: Under DOJ Investigation Over Campaign Spending

Reportedly, Democratic House member Cori Bush is currently under federal investigation. She has allegations of allegedly using campaign funds improperly on security services.

Likewise, the Missouri-based politician has been criticized for hiring her husband and also paying him more than appropriate as part of her security program.

However, Bush has revealed that she is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and she never misused funds.

The politician has served as a member of the US House of Representatives since 2021.

In a statement Cori released on Tuesday, she revealed that as a rank-and-file member of Congress, she is ineligible for personal protection by the House. 

Hence, Bush said she has used campaign funds “as permissible” to recompense for security services

I have never used any federal tax dollars for my security services. Any reporting that I have misued for personal security is simply not true.

Bush added revealing that she has become the latest target of right-wing organizations, as she referred this “having lodged baseless complaints” against her.
