Bernard Arnault was born on March 5, 1949, in Roubaix, France.

His father, Jean Leon Arnault, was a civil engineer and a businessman who owned a construction company called Ferret-Savinel.

His mother, Marie-Josèphe Savinel, had a fascination for Dior, one of the brands that Arnault would later acquire.
