Moreover, he has a contentious position on creationism, claiming that God created the planet and the heavens and that the earth is 4.5 billion years old.
He has also angered atheists by claiming that the most significant American virtue is trust in the Creator.
Rubio expresses a longing for the Most Blessed Sacrament, Holy Communion, and the liturgy of heaven, and he also misses Roman Catholicism.
He started studying the full catechism in late 2004 and concluded that “every sacrament, every symbol, and every tradition of the Catholic faith is intended to convey, above everything else, the revelation that God yearns, too, for a relationship with you.”

Although Mario and Oriales Rubio immigrated in 1956, according to immigration documents, Rubio first claimed that his parents had left Cuba and the Castro dictatorship in 1959.
His mother was a housekeeper at the Imperial Palace Hotel, while his father was a bartender at the Sams Town Hotel.
The family moved back to Miami in 1985, and his father stayed on as a bartender at the Mayfair House Hotel until 1997.

He remained employed as a school crossing guard until 2005 when he retired. His mother retired in 1995 after working as a stock clerk at Kmart.

Rubio claims on his website that once Castro took office, his parents decided to try to return to Cuba. He claims that his mother traveled there in 1961 with his elder siblings “with the intention of moving back.”
