On Saturday evening, the nine-year-old and two dear friends, so close to her that they felt like cousins, embarked on a bike ride just before nightfall.
They circled the trail together, but while her friends decided to return, Charlotte wanted to do one more loop by herself.
After waiting 15 minutes without Charlotte’s return to the campsite, her parents, David and Trisha, began to sense something was amiss.
They called out her name, but when they received no response, everyone at the campsite, including people from neighboring campgrounds who didn’t even know them, abandoned their meals and tables to help search for the young girl.
Thirty minutes later, at 6:37 p.m., Trisha made the critical call to 911. State police were on the scene by 7 p.m.
Although Charlotte’s bicycle was found, there were no signs of Charlotte herself.
On Sunday at 9:35 a.m., the New York State Police initiated an Amber Alert, indicating that it was in response to a child abduction incident at approximately 6:45 p.m. the previous night.
In the morning, an extra search squad was dispatched, bringing the total number of searchers to over 100.
This dedicated team included forest rangers and 75 law enforcement officers who worked tirelessly in the search efforts.
