In 2005, Susan portrayed doctor Maggie Coldwell in the BBC One medical drama Casualty. She had to live far away from her husband for four years.

Likewise, Susan had to make the 174-mile journey to Bristol for filming. Also, the actress previously credited her husband and said that she couldn’t have done without him.

In an interview with Daily Record, Cookson said:

There have been times when I had to say to my kids, ‘I won’t be here in the morning. I have to go back to Bristol tonight.’

The tears well up in their eyes and they say: ‘I don’t want you to go! Please don’t go! I hate Casualty!’

The actress added, saying that she had to go to work, “If it weren’t me, your dad would have to be going away. One of us has to be working. But it will be fine. I’ll see you soon.”

She mentioned that her husband Malc had difficulty too because of her schedule. However, Malc fit in well and supported her anyways.

Susan said that he husband was the most supportive person and she couldn’t have done without him.
