Supercross: Cooper Webb Accident

Cooper, who was competing against Eli Tomac, the leader in the Monster Energy Supercross standings, crashed during Heat 1 of the Nashville round at Nissan Stadium. As a result of his injury, he had to be taken to a nearby hospital for additional testing.

Webb was struck by Adam Cianciarulo after losing control of his front tire. Cianciarulo’s Kawasaki struck Webb’s back before striking his helmet forcefully. As they rolled Webb into the Alpinestars medical cart, he was sitting upright.

“We were riding each other pretty aggressively there in Turn 2 and Turn 3,” Tomac told NBC Sports’ Will Christien. “In Turn 2, Cooper came up the inside and I tried to do the similar thing. We didn’t make contact, but then he washed his front end out and I happened to be looking back to see if he did fully hit the ground and I believe Adam clipped him. Obviously that is unfortunate. It changes a lot of things for us.”

With three rounds left, the rider still had a good chance to close the 11-point difference he had with Tomac going into the round. Webb is in second place due to consistency, while Tomac rose to the top spot with seven victories.

The Supercross rider is the only one to have swept the top five so far this season, placing third nine times in the first 14 rounds. He was unable to line up for the main event, so that will come to an end.

Prior to being taken to the hospital, Webb was awake and able to stand, but he was clearly in agony and upset by the turn of events.

Supercross: Cooper Webb Injury Update

Although the full extent of Cooper’s injury is unknown, missing a round will significantly hurt his chances of capturing a third championship in the previous five years. At Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, he won the Supercross championship in 2019 and 2021, earning him the distinction of being the odd man out just before the victory.
