Stephen Hovanic, Chief of Staff for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) in the Americas Region, was arrested during a human trafficking sting on a pandering charge.
The incident occurred at a SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Newman, Georgia, approximately 12 miles west of the DODEA-Americas headquarters in Peachtree City.
Hovanic was taken into custody at 4:29 p.m. on the first day of the sting.
The arrest report alleges that Hovanic solicited sex from an undercover officer in a hotel room, believing he was purchasing a massage, not engaging in a sexual act.
Hovanic, an honorably discharged veteran and U.S. Military Academy at West Point attendee has been with the Department of Defense Education Activity for nearly three decades, serving as Chief of Staff for the Americas region for the past 13 years.
Of the 26 arrests made during the sting, 12 were for prostitution, 10 for pandering, and four for pimping.
The operation also resulted in the rescue of six trafficked victims, and three of the arrested individuals are under investigation for human trafficking and drug charges.
Hovanic was booked and released the following day at 5:37 p.m.
