Subsequently, he was placed on the Orioles’ 10-day injured list because of a left forearm strain. Mountcastle initially experienced pain after playing in a doubleheader, but he tried to push through it.

However, the pain persisted, and he took a break from playing. On June 11, 2023, he was not able to play after being sick for three days.

According to his manager, Mountcastle made an effort to continue playing despite feeling sick, but it was evident that he wasn’t feeling well.

Instead of pursuing college baseball at the University of Central Florida, Mountcastle chose to sign with the Orioles, agreeing to a contract worth $1.3 million. After signing with the Orioles, Mountcastle began his professional career with the Gulf Coast League Orioles.

Ryan performed impressively, boasting a batting average of .313 and contributing three home runs and 14 RBIs in 43 games.  As a result, he was promoted to the Aberdeen IronBirds, where he played ten games and recorded a .212 batting average to conclude the season.
