She comes from a patriotic family. Her father, Jim, was drafted during the Vietnam War, and her grandfather, a World War II veteran, resides with her family.

Moreover, Megan’s maternal grandfather also served in the Korean War, enduring numerous injuries. Their family boasts a proud lineage of military service to the country.

At the tender age of nine, she was introduced to competitive soccer. In Redding, California, girls had limited opportunities to play the sport at the time.

Her father, Jim, placed her on a boys’ team for a year. While Megan proved her skills on the field, she found the boys’ physicality a significant challenge.

Due to the scarcity of girls’ teams and coaches, Jim stepped up as her coach for approximately three years.

In those days, organizing a girls’ team was no easy feat, but Jim’s dedication ensured that Megan had the opportunity to pursue her passion for soccer.

Megan Rapinoe Siblings 

Megan Rapinoe, the renowned soccer player, comes from a large and diverse family. She shared a special bond with her fraternal twin, Rachael Rapinoe, and her older brother, Brian Rapinoe.

Megan’s parents, Denise and Jim, raised seven children. They include Megan, Rachael, Brian, and two step-siblings from Denise’s previous marriage, Michael and Jenny.

As a young girl, she looked up to her older brother Brian and was inspired to play soccer after witnessing his passion for the sport.

Unfortunately, Brian’s life turned dark when he fell into drug addiction during her early years in school.

By the time Megan was ten, and Brian was fifteen, he was placed in juvenile detention, followed by multiple incarcerations in various prisons, including Pelican Bay State Prison.

Megan’s twin sister, Rachael, also shared a love for soccer and played as a midfielder and forward. The two sisters even teamed up to host youth soccer camps together.

Rapinoe proudly embraces her Irish-American heritage. Her ethnic background includes a mix of Italian ancestry from her paternal grandfather and Irish roots.

With a lineage containing a quarter of Italian heritage, she represents the ideal blend of garlic-infused Italian culture and the spirited Gaelic traditions often associated with New Jersey.

Furthermore, looking into her family history, her Irish immigrant great-grandfather shared his journey with six sisters. 

One passed away at a young age, while the remaining five, Bridget, Kate, Mary, Maggie, and Lizzie, ventured to the United States and made Philadelphia their new home.

Her father, Jim, and her grandfather, Jack, honorably served their country in the Army.
