According to Commissioner Jessica Tisch of the New York Police Department (NYPD), Mangione was taken into custody at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a staff member recognized the suspect from police images and informed the police.
Tisch claims that when Mangione was arrested, he had several false identification documents with him, including a passport from the United States and one using the name Mark Rosario, which he had used to check into a hostel in New York City before the shooting.
According to authorities, Mangione also possessed a pistol and a silencer, “both consistent with the weapon used in the murder.”

Luigi Mangione comes from a wealthy Maryland family founded by the late patriarch Nicholas Mangiano, a first-generation American who established a media and real estate empire in the state.
Luigi’s grandfather, Nicholas Mangione, a philanthropist and businessman from Baltimore, died at the age of 83.
He started WCBM-AM, Hayfields Country Club, and Turf Valley Resort.
The Mangione family has a lengthy history of sponsoring foundations, hospitals, and assisted living facilities.
