The Zimbabwean music industry is mourning following the band Insimbi Zezhwane accident. Lead singer, MaEli and drummer tragically lost their lives in a car collision on last Saturday.
The road mishap on Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road involving Insimbi Zezhwane has brought sorrow as the band mourns the untimely deaths of two of its members.
As news of the Insimbi Zezhwane accident emerged, the music community and fans were shocked to learn the tragic reality that two talented band members had tragically lost their lives.
However, an investigation is underway, and officers are looking into the accident scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the Insimbi Zezhwane accident.

Band Insimbi Zezhwane Accident: Car Collision Killed Lead Singer MaEli And Drummer
Elvis ‘MaEli’ Mathe, the band’s co-founder and main vocalist and drummer Thembinkosi ‘Maviri’ Mpofu, were fatally wounded while departing from a performance in Binga District.
According to musicinafrica.net, four members suffered injuries and are now healing in various hospitals.
The Zimbabwean government has subsequently pledged to pay for all burial and hospital expenses.
MaEli sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident, leaving him in critical condition.
Only a few journalists were able to interview Ma Eli, and regrettably, he has passed away, and his story was only relayed via his music and those who worked with him.
He was just 31 years old and had left behind his wife and two children in Tsholotsho.
Tragedy struck on Saturday as Maviri also succumbed to his injuries resulting from the unfortunate accident along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road, specifically at the Fatima High School turn-off.
The second victim of the fatal crash Thembinkosi Mpofu was a prominent drummer in the music scene who played for Godolude.
Additionally, he stepped in as the drummer for Insimbi Zezhwane following their relocation to Zimbabwe earlier this year.
But sadly, he also passed away from his injuries at the scene, leaving a void in the music world.
The tragic news was confirmed by the group’s manager, Bahlanu Sibanda.
Moreover, the authorities have confirmed that the deceased, Mathe and Mpofu, will be taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for a thorough post-mortem.
This medical examination will play a crucial role in uncovering any underlying factors that might have contributed to the unfortunate incident.
Following the unfortunate case, their fans, family, and friends are deeply mourning the death.
The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) also extended its deepest condolences to Elvis Mathe and Thembinkosi Mpofu.
Nicholas Moyo, NACZ director, said his sympathies also extend to all the band members’ families affected by this untimely and unfortunate situation.
He added that The NACZ wishes the remaining band members a speedy recovery.
Band Insimbi Zezhwane Musical Journey So Far
Insimbi ZeZhwane, a prominent musical group, was co-founded by MaEli and lead guitarist Meluleki ‘Brema’ Moyo.
Beginning their musical journey in 2015, the dynamic duo embarked on a recording spree that resulted in seven albums.
Within just eight years of their music journey produced albums such as Iseqa Mgwaqo, Inhlanzi Encane, Sizalendaba, Dikidiki, and, Imbemba, showcasing their impressive range and talent.
The group had been based in South Africa until returning to Bulawayo at the beginning of this year.
Insimbi ZeZhwane became a sought-after rumba group for its live performances in Matabeleland.
The group also received several awards, one of them including recognition at the Bulawayo Arts Awards and the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMAs).
