Highlights

  • Angelica Panganiban shared why she insisted on hip replacement surgery, even though her previous doctors had advised against it.
  • The actress has been dealing with avascular necrosis for years.
  • The “That Thing Called Tadhana” star said she felt worse following her first hip surgery in July 2024.

The 38-year-old star underwent seven-hour hip core decompression surgery at St. Luke’s Medical Center just a few months ago.

She shared the procedure she underwent while preparing for the surgery through her vlog.

Panganiban also shared how much she missed Gregg and their child and how she felt down.

“No matter how nice the hospital is, it still makes you feel down.”

But the Quezon City native was more excited for the surgery than scared. She hoped it would end the pain that she had been dealing with for years.

Following the hip decompression, she updated her fans saying, “I’m in the recovery room, weak and in pain.”

“The swelling in my legs worries me. My hips feel loose now, which is a relief. The surgery pain is there, but getting better each day. I’m now on low dosage pain relievers. I will be on bed rest for three weeks.”

However, just after a month, she returned to her doctor to say that she actually felt worse and decided to go for a hip replacement procedure.

The renowned performer expressed her frustration after her first surgery. She explained that despite resting for a month, she felt no improvement and actually felt worse.

Her doctor reportedly suggested she should bear the pain for five more years before considering another hip replacement.

“After a month of bed rest, after a month of surgery, we went back to the doctor. I was the one who felt it, of course, and I am explaining that nothing happened, in fact, I felt worse.”

“The doctor said I should just bear it. Until I’ll give myself five more years before I have a hip replacement.”

Furthermore, the actress said after losing her mother suddenly, she was pushed more to find another way to end her pain.

“Since mom died suddenly it really clicked with me that ‘wow life is so fast.’ I will not allow something to happen to me with so many regrets, so many hopes in life.”

She then looked for experts on hip replacement and underwent another surgery.

“Maybe my takeaway here is to listen to your body. No one else knows your feelings better than you. What you think is right, you have to fight for it,” the performer noted.

Following the second operation, there seem to have been significant improvements.

Angelica said that she was able to walk just five hours after she underwent her second surgery.

She added,

“It’s surprising because right after my surgery within five hours I was able to walk. Of course, there is pain,”.

“Pain like avascular necrosis pain, it’s really gone on my left side. So on my right side, of course, the core decompression worked because it’s not yet stage 3,” Panganiban went on.

During her final round of physical therapy after her second hip surgery, Panganiban shed happy tears.

She said,

“I’m crying… I’m happy there’s no pain,”

The actress plans to update her fans soon about her recovery progress.
