In November 1996, Kirk was 26 years old when he suffered a severe accident backstage at a Memphis concert. He fell into an orchestra pit and landed on his head, causing severe injuries.

He was grown by his aunt Gertrude after his mother abandoned him as a baby.
At age four, he started taking piano classes, and by age seven, he had his first music contract.
Gospel music great Milton Biggham was impressed by his skills and asked him to lead the DFW Mass Choir in a recording of Franklin’s song “Every Day with Jesus.”
Because of this, Biggham hired Franklin to lead the choir at the Gospel Music Workshop of America Convention in 1990. This was the start of Franklin’s career.
The singer has produced music for films like “Kingdom Come” and signed acts like The Walls Group and Tasha Page-Lockhart to his label, Fo Yo Soul Recordings.
